Who Are We
We are a network of community action groups located in the Northern Suburbs of Launceston, Tasmania.
The role of these groups is to focus on developing local projects, holding events and building capacity within the community to achieve great things!
What is Community Champions?
Community Champions is a local program that helps people in Launceston’s Northern Suburbs turn their community ideas into real action.
City Mission’s Project North, the City of Launceston, and a wide network of local organisations are working side-by-side with community members to provide training opportunities, skill-building, local resources, and supportive networks, to help community members become local leaders who can create change where they live.
Who are Community Champions?
Local people who want to step forward and help shape the future of their community!
Champions direct and lead projects, organise events, and bring people together - not just participate.
Community Champions are supported by City Mission’s Project North, the City of Launceston, and other passionate organisations to who seek to see communities thrive.
How do I get involved?
Since 2022, Project North and the City of Launceston have been working closely with residents in the Northern Suburbs, building strong relationships through local meetings, events, projects and workshops.
Community action groups now meet regularly in neighbourhood houses, community sheds, and local schools. Have a look at the meeting times and come along to the next meeting!
The Community Action Network
At the heart of Community Champions is the Community Action Network - a growing group of residents, community leaders, neighbourhood houses, schools, service providers, and local businesses who care about strengthening their suburbs.
This network covers Rocherlea, Mayfield, Newnham, Mowbray, Invermay, Ravenswood and Waverley. Each area has its own action group, shaped by local strengths and local priorities.
Together, they:
Identify issues and opportunities raised by the community
Dream, plan and deliver local events
Support one another across suburbs
Build confidence, leadership and skills
Celebrate the achievements of their community
The Network is open, inclusive, and always welcoming new members who want to make a difference.
